Back to Baroque with another rarity: Christoph Graupner!
Christoph Graupner (1683-1760) is probably the composer with the higher difference between the number of works composed and the number of works currently performed: while the second number is very close to zero, his catalogue offers more than 2,000 pieces (yes, more than Bach, for whom Graupner hold a mutual esteem), comprising:
• 113 sinfonias (one requires 6 Timpani!)
• 85 ouvertures/suites
• 44 concertos (for very unusual instrumental combinations, like 2 chalumeaux, or 2 "oboes di selva", or flauto d'amore+oboe d'amore+viola d'amore)
• 8 operas
• 1,418 sacred cantatas (!!!) and 24 secular cantatas
• 66 sonatas
• 57 Harpsichord partitas.
He's also known for his Canon with 5626 Inversions, 800 pages obsessively-compulsively filled with any possible combination of a 4-voice canon.
As I said before, though, almost nothing of this huge mass of works is currently performed, but a lot of them are now available on SPs score videos!
First of all, Graupner's 12 Suite dedicated to the months of the year, which you can find in this very useful playlist.
Then, four of his Cantatas:
And finally, some of his instrumental works:
his Concerto for 2 Violins, in G minor
the Entrata per la musica di tavola, in G minor
Enjoy this long journey into Graupner's music!
